Our Lady of Sorrows (Memorial)
by Rev. Fr. Alex
(Sta. Clara Parish Church, Pasay)
25 So the soldiers did
this. But standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother, and his mother's
sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Mag'dalene. 26 When Jesus saw his
mother, and the disciple whom he loved standing near, he said to his mother,
"Woman, behold, your son!" 27 Then he said to the disciple,
"Behold, your mother!" And from that hour the disciple took her to
his own home.
HOMILY
As we commemorate the
Feast of the Our Lady of Sorrows, we are being led by the word of God to
reflect on Mary's participation in the sufferings of her Son, Jesus Christ, for
our salvation. We should reflect on our spiritual disposition in relation to Mary,
when she experienced first-hand sorrow, for being Christ's Mother. We should
put ourselves in the shoes of our Mother, and try to identify our participation
in the sorrow of our Mother. We should be reminded that we are the
beneficiaries of salvation. We should then look at ourselves in relation to the
saving act of God.
As we reflect on the sorrow of our Blessed Mother and Christ's sufferings, we should also reflect on our shortcomings and sufferings at magtika tayo sa ating mga kasalanan. We should reflect on how Jesus responded to the call of God - how he learned obedience and accepted God's will. Bagamat siya ang Diyos, ipinagkait Niya ito sa kanyang sarili. Siya ay tumupad sa kalooban ng Ama. Tinupad ni Hesus ang kanyang misyon upang bigyan tayo ng ganap na kaligtasan.
As we honor the Feast of our Lady of Sorrows, we should continue our spiritual journey by going inward in terms of our personal relationship with God. Mahalagang kilalanin natin ang pagsunod ni Hesus sa kalooban ng Ama at katulad Niya, tayo ay tumalima nang may kababaang-loob, Amen.
